Octopus IV Azekka: Proceeds to Moroccan Children

Fresh Poulp Records have released another album today. Not just any album.  It’s still creative-commons licensed music, but it’s been sold in aid of Moroccan children.  All proceeds from the sale of Octopus IV Azekka will go to Azekka France and Morocco , as part of its action “Binder Kit.”  This “Binder Kit” will give a student of Morocco all the necessary supplies for 1 full school year. This specific approach is particularly aimed at children from villages in the rural and peripheral regions of Ouarzazate in southern Morocco. Big respect to Geoffrey (from Fresh Poulp) and all the artists who gave their tracks for this album!

Checkout the video below and then think about getting yourself a copy. I have, and it’s great! Available here or at all the usual stockists, like Amazon, iTunes, Juno etc etc.

7 years ago today

It was 7 years ago today that we lost the Prophet John Peel (pbuh).  No-one came close to John for his love for a wide array of weird and wonderful music. Sadly, since his passing no one person has replaced him. It’s as if the magic that was John has been spread far and wide, but not settled in one place.  Many people cite him as their influence (myself included) and you can certainly find great internet radio stations and podcasts that attempt to follow his lead.

So, why not take a look at your record collection. Do you have anything by The Fall, Stiff Little Fingers, Joy Division, Bob Marley, Aswad, Kanda Bongo Man, Captain Beefheart, Frank Zappa or The Undertones (to name but a few) in your collection?  It probably got there because of John.  Take it out and play it loud today!

AMPed@CMJ #1

I’m adding some AMP shows into the PCP feed this week, because my old buddy Peter Clitheroe has gone off to CMJ in New York again, and he’ll be co-presenting some backstage discussions with Justin Wayne.

In the first update, Peter walks us through getting his press badge, has an interview with Rench of Ganstagrass (http://ganstagrass.com), and finds some very interesting music along his travels.

Keep an eye on the AMP feed for further updates this week, and find Peter (peter@suffolkandcool.com) if you are an artist and want to appear on the show!

Rolling.fm – In Dub We Trust!

One of my listeners contacted me yesterday to tell me of a new website he thought I might be interested in: rolling.fm.  It’s a virtual party based in which you can listen to DJs, become a DJ yourself or share the decks with your friends.

Having listened to a few people DJ in Second Life I was quite interested, but it’s the collaborative aspect that makes this much cooler, plus there’s no need to use a costly server (such as shoutcast or the like) as all the tracks are uploaded in advance and played from the site directly.

There’s also a chat room, the opportunity to pimp your avatar and the ability to send someone a virtual drink. Needless to say I think this is very cool.

So, why not head down to the “In Dub We Trust” room (setup by RussDaFari, my listener, based on the East Coast of the US) and checkout our dubs, join in and enjoy the party.  You’ll find me hiding under the DJ pseudonym “Audacious P Dubdaddy

Delhi 2 Dubland EP

I downloaded this curious mix of Irish, Bhangra & Reggae beats from bandcamp yesterday, thanks to a recommendation from Dubmatix. It’s awesome, and for £3 (that’s CAD$5, US$4.75 or EUR 3.56) it’s a steal!
