Game Boy Dub? – Masayuki’s moments

MasayukiBlogger of the Music Forest, from Japan, Masayuki, gives us his Netlabel selections for 2009 from Phlow’s Advent Calendar today.

Some rather interesting “chiptune” stuff as you might expect from a Japanese source, plus some “game boy dub” (dubstep?) from quarta330 which is quite excellent.

Unfortunately archive.org is down as I write this, so a lot of the links are down. Netlabel FAIL!

Gregoire’s chants

Michael GregoireMichael Gregoire pushes all the right buttons from the start when he includes Jamendo favourites Juanitos and The Diablo Swing Orchestra in his Phlow-Magazine Advent Calendar selection.

So it was great to find some golden nuggets that I’ve missed over the year – especially Russian Pop Duo Muha and Nashville band Paper Navy.

I wonder what tomorrow’s selection will be?

How the East Was Won

Secret Archives of the Vatican Podcast 15 - How the East Was WonThere’s a (thankfully short) interview with myself and Rowley Cutler from Dark Compass over on Podcast 15 from Secret Archives. I say, thankfully short, because interviews recorded on #podcrawl day may appear more intelligent than they actually were (or is that the other way around?).

Oh, and there’s some damn fine music as well. Get there soon before I start pilfering it for my podcasts!

Wonder Wheel

I’m not sure where the idea of a wonder wheel came from, or what it’s supposed use is, but it comes up with some interesting connections!

What’s your favourite album of the decade?

The Top 10 albums of the decade? So, the BBC tells us that The Stokes debut album has been voted album of the decade in a poll of bands, record producers and label bosses.

That’s one hell of an accolade, but is it true. Of the list published I only have the Actic Monkeys and Arcade Fire albums, and I certainly wouldn’t bother with any of the others.

Thatcher not dead (sadly)

Margaret ThatcherIt would seem early reports from Canada suggesting the ultimate-bitch-troll-from-hell, Margaret Thatcher, was dead, are false. In fact a cat called Thatcher has died.

Shame really. I’m looking forward to the day when the old dragon really is dead and I can raise a glass knowing she’ll be burning in hell forever. As for the cat?  Bloody stupid name for an animal anyway!

Not Drowning But Waving….

Google WaveSo, I’ve been invited by a fellow AMP member to join the Google Wave preview.

So, what is Google Wave?  Well, apart from an enormous drain on every’s time with yet another social network, most of the time people have told me to watch the hour-and-twenty minute-long video.

But the best description I’ve seen so far is…

Google Wave is, for the most part, a collaboration tool for projects. Consider it a board room of sorts.  A place to work on new files, ideas, brainstorming. It isn’t as much a social media tool as it is a virtual conference room.

Different projects can have different “waves” that allow various members of an organization or collective the opportunity to work as “committees”. And, you can branch conversations to others or work with specific aspects of a project in “private.”

Interesting times ahead…

New beats from Budapest

Been checking out the latest offerings from the  Budabeats netlabel, which, unsurprisingly, is a label based in Budapest, Hungary.  Some seriously curious music coming out of this label, so be warned! The next PC Podcast may have the weirdness turned up to eleven!

I’m growing a Mo in Movember

Grow a Mo in Movember to change the face of men’s health

OK, so I’ve been challenged by Peter Chitheroe, over at Suffolk and Cool, to grow a mo (moustache) during the month of Movember (gettit?)  to raise awareness of men’s health issues, like prostate cancer.

I’ve grown a beard a few times before but always shaved it off before the month is out. We’ve started a little late, and with Podcrawl coming up in only two weeks (21st Movember) I dare say some of us will come up with some very poor efforts, but it will be a laugh and we’ll give it a try. No doubt there will be photographs as we go along and some serious p*ss-taking!

If you’d like to donate to the cause then click on the picture above or here! Many thanks.

Tweet and Podcast with twaud.io

Just experimenting with http://twaud.io for tweeting music files of up to 10Mb.

twaud.io

I’ve tried other services such as http://twt.fm and http://twiturm.com in the past.

http://twt.fm offers you the ability to re-use your files uploaded from other places, such as libsyn, youtube or soundcloud.

http://twiturm.com offers you the ability to upload a whole track and creates an RSS feed, but without podcast enclosures.

http://twaud.io offers you full podcast enclosures, so you can plug the feed straight into iTunes, but 10Mb is limiting for music podcasters. Would be great for those submitting audio for NaPodPoMo this year though!

Also seems a better option for non-Iphone users than http://audioboo.fm.

Reverend and the mosh pit

Reverend and the Makers, C2, Brighton, 2nd November 2009

Another blinding gig  by Reverend and the Makers at Concorde2 in Brighton last night.  Tried to get a couple of photos but there was so much moshing I didn’t really get anything in focus.

John "Reverend" McClure busking after the C2 gig

John did a nice bit of busking afterwards.  He probably would have gone down onto the beach had it not been pouring down at that point! Great gig!

Support Alionsonny

If you like my podcasts then you will undoubably have heard me play Alionsonny at some stage. He’s always given away over 100 pieces of music for free over the years and has been a great character in the dub communities. I’ve never met him personally, but feel he’s part of a great community of dub lovers.

He’s in trouble at the moment, and needs our help.  Read more about his predicament at Reggaedubwise, and if you can help him out, then please consider donating, using the button below.
